What is ERC-8128 and why use it for API auth?
ERC-8128 is a standard for non-replayable signed messages. This server uses it so agents can prove identity cryptographically without traditional API keys, and each request is unique and cannot be replayed by attackers.
How do I set up AuthProof MCP with my agent?
Install via `npx @authproof/mcp-server@0.3.0`, then set AUTHPROOF_SERVER, AGENT_PRIVATE_KEY (hex format), AUTHPROOF_CHAIN_ID, and AUTHPROOF_RPC_URL environment variables. The agent self-registers on first use.
Do I need to manage API keys with this server?
No. Instead of API keys, you provide a wallet private key (AGENT_PRIVATE_KEY) and the server signs requests cryptographically. Each signature is unique and non-replayable.
Can the server auto-pay for API calls?
Yes, if you configure AUTHPROOF_RPC_URL, the server can submit transactions for auto-payment. This requires the agent wallet to have funds on the configured chain.
What happens if my AGENT_PRIVATE_KEY is exposed?
The private key controls the agent's identity and signing capability. Treat it like a wallet private key—rotate it immediately and regenerate credentials via the AuthProof server if compromised.
